Show Us Where You Live Friday: Foyer

This week Kelly's Korner is showing off foyers and entryways...

We really don't have a very defined foyer... when you walk through the door... you pretty much see an open concept design with the dining room and living room. Take a look for yourself.

You entered through this door... (this is the inside, looks the same as the outside. ;D)

Upon entering you see this:

But not before you see this, directly to your right.

I have a "half table" with a yellow watering can and some flowers....and a few picture frames.

And a collection of red barn stars... some with scrolls...some without.

Looking back at the foyer from the living room:

Ok, so you saw my wonky curtain. haha Believe it or not... I made it that way on purpose.

I hated having that window open without a treatment... does anyone else get 300 solicitors per day?? And I'm not about to open the door to some strange man when I'm home alone...I've seen Forensic Files... I know the outcome can potentially be dangerous. So some privacy curtains were needed... except for this:

My dogs sit at this window and look out into the front yard all day long... especially when we leave for an errand...they watch and wait for us to return. This is our ONLY window to see out to the front of the house (besides a few bedroom windows)... and I just felt awful closing off their window. So I compromised... haha...and made the wonky curtain. It works for the few remaining months we have in this house until we move again. (Got to love military life).

We do have another friend that lives on our porch. If you look right out of the big arched window above the door...

You see this mama bird and her nest of babies. :)

Well, I wish I had more to show you... but this is our foyer...

Show Us Where You Live Friday: Master Bedroom

Today is Show Us Where You Live Friday... hosted by Kelly at Kelly's Korner. This week is Master bedrooms. I like to consider my master bedroom "simple"... which may be an euphemism for "mildly neglected". ;) We started our black and white (or, more specifically, cream) theme when we first got married last September. Since neither one of us owned anything black or white (or at least the look we were trying to achieve)... we have SLOWLY been accumulating a few decor items here and there. Again, we will be moving by the end of the year and are waiting until we move into our next house before we really lose our marbles in the decorating department. ;) This is what we have so far:

The bedspread was from Target.
I LOVED this Waverly print.
We accented with red (Or, I should say, we started to accent with red)... red lamp shades and red suede pillows. More pillows to come later on.

We have two end tables... with a cream color skirt.
And, of course, my trusty bedside Bible.

On the left wall, we have a large black writing table with an old antique window.
The chair is desperately in need of a makeover. I'm thinking I will paint it black and shabby it up a little bit. I'll put that on my to-do list.

This is where all of the sewing experiments magic happens. I have a craft/guest room but for some reason, I love to sew in here instead. Plenty of space to cut out fabric and such.On my writing table I have a lamp, flowers, flower pens in a Terra Cotta pot (that I took as a favor from my bridal shower) and a picture of my family (who all live in CA and I miss very much).

From the desk and bed looking forward, we have two old dressers...

This dresser is also "mid-makeover". I am going to be decoupaging a scroll print on the drawers and changing out the hardware. More to follow on that in a later post.

We have several engagement and wedding pictures up in our room. We decided we would spare our guests from having to see wedding pics all over our living room. haha (Although they will have to stomach a few in the living room...)


The second dresser is a creamy white, old, old thing.
I'm thinking about giving it a fresh coat of paint and maybe changing out the hardware, too...

On top of the dresser are a few more pics and a perfume tray.

In between the walk-in-closet and the main door, I have a full length mirror, a shelf and two pictures.

A word of advice for you single girls out there: Do not do what I did and declare that you will never get married. haha You will need a shoehorn to get your foot out of your mouth when you actually do. ;) As I was approaching my mid to late twenties (and had always figured that I would be married by 21- at the very latest) and still single, I decided my fate was the nunnery; hell would freeze before I found someone that met my "standard" of a marriage worthy man. My sister (also my maid of honor) had this newspaper made as a wedding gift... very fitting.

One of my favorite features of the room is the ceiling.

Show Us Where You Live Friday: Laundry Room

Well we don't have children yet... so no "play room" and we don't really have a "bonus room"... just bedrooms that are craft, exercise and guest rooms. So... looks like you get a tour of my laundry room!! ;)

This laundry room is totally wonky (yes, this is a rental so we can't really do anything about the wonky-ness). The owners put in a cabinet across from the wall where the laundry water hookups are... but it is so close to the machines that you can't open the machine doors because of the cabinet. Hence, stacking our laundry machines and turning it sideways. Sheesh. We covered up the unsightly water hookups with drapes... It works, but is not the most aesthetically appealing. As much as I hate the cabinet there, it serves as our pantry (since we do not have one in the kitchen) and I don't know what we would do without it. Definitely a love/hate relationship with the wonky cabinet. ;)

On top of the dryer we have our picnic basket and watering can.


And this little folk artish picture. Can't go wrong with barns and farmhouses. :)
Below the washing machine is this red, white and blue braided rug. Yes, our laundry room is patriotic. ;)

Next to the pantry and machines... we have a little roller table with a crate to organize our laundry detergents and softeners. Keeps things where they belong. ;)

These guys like to hang out on the shelf above it...

I am particularly fond of the polka dotted hen and Mr. Crow. Mr. Roller Rooster's front wheel broke. How creepy is a roller rooster anyway? It reminded me of the wheely monkeys on the Return to Oz movie (which completely terrified me as a kid... and watching it again as an adult, yup, still nightmare worthy. haha In fact, I think the movie is MUCH scarier as an adult.) Then just an old antique iron and an overall wearing rooster.

I especially love Mr. Crow's ginormous feet. And the fact he is wearing Baby Osh Kosh shortalls. And his beak. ha!

On the other side of the cabinet... we have our dog leashes and a fire extinguisher.

Side story... We almost needed to use it the other night! A few days prior, I was baking a pie and the pie filling bubbled over and dripped onto the floor of the oven... I was waiting for the oven to cool before I cleaned it out. Needless to say, I totally forgot about and went to bed. A few days later, hubby fires up the oven... literally. The oven completely caught fire. I'm talking real flames. In a mad panic... hubby starts throwing glasses of water into the oven... and, out of the fear of the fire spreading, I run to get the extinguisher. And the sad part is, with a REAL fire in my house... I still debated whether I should use the extinguisher, contemplating whether this qualified as a "fire extinguisher" worthy situation... all the meanwhile, bummed out on the thought of replacing our extinguisher (they're not cheap!). haha. Who has such irrational thoughts like that amidst a blaze in the kitchen? Luckily, my old flight attendant fire extinguishing skills were not needed... hubby got the fire out the old fashioned way of throw cups of water at the fire. :) The point is, if you do not have a fire extinguisher... get one! You never know when you may need it! Moving on...

Door to the garage...

A red heart tin hangs with some gingham ribbon (did you really think you would see a room in my house without some red gingham accent? haha)

Below the door is this mat:

And a mat that perfectly describes my dog Dallas. ;)

On the back wall, I have hooks to hang a few of my aprons. Gives me easy access to pick out one to wear for the day.
Isn't housework so much more tolerable if your wearing a frilly little apron? ;)

Can you pick out which one is my husband's apron??

No! It is NOT the black and white polka dot ruffle apron! He get his "manly" In-N-Out apron. ;)

Finally... the window treatment... if you can call it that. I guess it would be more appropriately labeled as a "roman shade". ;)
